STUDIO课程简介
To designs a new visitor centre for the Abu Dhabi wetland reserve.
In this studio, we will learn how to increase our chances of winning in architectural competitions:
- how to express ideas clearly
- what is the ‘money-shot’/rendering views
- how to stand out in a competition
The Abu Dhabi Flamingo Visitor Center competition is the second in a series set in the Al Wathba Wetland Reserve;
In 2019, EAD (Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi). organised the Flamingo Observation Tower competition, where RAC student won the first prize student award, taught by instructor Manus Leung.

In this studio, we will find inspiration from local culture, material and climate.
The visitor centre would need to provide a few key facilities such as an information centre with a small cafe, terrace, souvenir shop, display area for specimens, training center, toilets and a car park.
We will also focus on structure and construction. This is a studio that will allow you to have a realstic, construction driven project in your portfolio.
We will learn how to read the competition brief closely, to identify what information is critical and important, and how to strategically enter with a higher chance to win.
The winning project will need to strike a balance between bold and sensitive aesthetics, allowing the center to fit into the natural surroundings while at the same time having the potential to become an iconic landmark in its own right.

Wetland Reserve, Abu Dhabi
You are to think critically on how to achieve a symbiotic relationship between architecture, landscape, ecology and environment, illustrate in your design how the site and architectural spaces interact with natural elements of topography, tree, water, land and climate. Please consider the building in the middle east climate, where shading structure is a key element to create comfortable spaces away from the heat.
